I consider storage design to be as critical and interesting to a home’s success as prominent decor and furniture. It requires a level of understanding of its owners’ lifestyle today, with insight towards the future. What and how much “stuff” is utilized and desired for each space in question? What collections, treasures and memories need to be showcased front and center? What needs to be accessed every day, for special occasions, seasonal use, or long-term storage? How can the cabinets, drawers, shelves, etc., be best connected seamlessly to the flow and aesthetic of the home? And ideally, how can it all be designed and constructed to endure the test of time? These along with a breadth of often-competing criteria and requirements drive the practical yet creative approach to designing storage and display.
